Quickstart Publish your first site with Claude Code

Step 4 · Make it yours

Pick a starter

Don't start from a blank page. Copy a real, working site and have the agent rewrite it for your subject. One starter tells a history as a long scrolling story. The other organizes any subject into a multi-page guide with a sidebar.

Time: 5 min

The two starters

Build step?NoYes: node build.mjs, run by the agent

Good forLearning any history: a place, an industry, a company, a movementOrganizing any subject into pages: a directory, handbook, resource guide or program catalog
Extra setupNone (its optional data check uses Node)Node, on the VS Code path only

First time? Pick history-of-tampa. This guide's running example turns it into a history of St. Petersburg, Florida, but the same steps work for any history subject. Building a directory or guide instead? Pick startup-india-guide.

What people made from them

history-of-indigo was built from a single message. Make your own version shows that prompt and how to use it for your own subject.

Want a sidebar guide like the one you're reading? This guide is built the same way as startup-india-guide and published from main, /docs. Its repo is fritzhand/quickstart (opens in a new tab).

Look before you choose

Have the agent walk you through a starter before you copy it. On the app path, add the starter to a session as a reference repo (Many repos, one to work in).

Say this
Look at fritzhand/history-of-tampa and tell me, in plain English, which files I'd change to make a history of my subject, and what I should delete first.

For the other starter, swap in fritzhand/startup-india-guide and "a guide to" instead of "a history of".

Licensing in plain words

You may reuse both starters. Each comes with a few conditions.
