Image Destabilization illuminates how the deterioration of lens-based media can take on new aesthetic and personal qualities. Oftentimes, tarnished media is discarded, pawned off, or restored to its original state of creation; however, immense beauty can be found in what we perceive as damaged goods. Expired film, eroded tintypes, and forgotten slides can be cherished for their newfound purpose and interpretations. The concept of appreciating natural wear and tear reflects how life is transformative, and, hopefully, through finding beauty in timeworn media, allows visitors to reconsider themselves in a society that often ignores and neglects the elderly.
